Tips for Parents

The following TIPs for Parents stem from a seminar titled 'Parenting on the Frontline' with Psychologist David Coleman. The seminar focused on the advice outlined within the Parent support booklet "Don't Lose the Head

 


Dr. David Coleman gives tips to Parents dealing with substance abuse in the family.

 

Don't Loose The Head (7.6mb)
The Support booklet “Don’t Loose the Head”  presents the issue of dealing with the drugs issue from a parenting perspective on a continuum of possible drug use stages.
The continuum highlights varying levels of drug use and related problems from;

Non Use  >>  Suspected Use  >> Confirmed Use  >> Addiction

The resource stresses that not all young people that get involved with drugs will progress to addiction. The SW Family Support network adapted the stages as outlined within "Don't Loose the Head" into video format below;
