Have you spotted these lying around and wondered what they are? Known as whippets, these are small gas cannisters that are often used in the catering industry. However as they contain nitrous oxide a trend is developing in their misuse. Our colleagues at Drugs.ie have a special news feature on this issue with general information as well as some harm reduction strategies.
Parents are also encouraged to inform themselves and to have open and clear communication with young people that may come into contact with this trend, The HSE have published a Parent Guide to Alcohol and Drugs: A Parents Guide this resource has plenty of practical tips and support for Parents and Guardians in relation to talking about drugs and alcohol.
If you do come across discarded cannisters we would encourage reporting these to the litter wardens who can be contacted on the freephone litter line: 1800 243 143 or 045 980588 or email environ@kildarecoco.ie.
